Silent Partner Responsibilities

You as a Silent Partner will play a vital and important role in the process of teaching some precious soul the word of God.

You can never under estimate the value you have to the Teacher and the Student(s).

It would benefit you, to have a Bible with a concordance.

The Teacher may ask you to find certain passages as they continue in the study.

Always be alert and pay close attention to details.  You should give feedback to the Teacher after you have left the study session.

This feedback will help the Teacher and yourself improve in techniques you have established in sharing God’s word with these precious souls.

As you hear material you are unclear on, write it down and ask the Teacher after you leave the class.

Be sure to never discuss such topics in the presence of the Student(s).

The Silent Partner and the Teacher must present the appearance of being on the same page.

If something said was inaccurate, write it down and give it to the Teacher, so that the error can be corrected.

This should be done so the student(s) doesn’t feel the Teacher and Silent Partner are collaborating against them.

  1. Always be prompt, this shows the commitment you have for the work of Christ
  2. Learn the lesson the Teacher uses. Make every effort to learn the material.  Not only will the information be helpful to the Student, but it will also reaffirm your faith and what you have committed yourself to.
  3. Carry extra paper, pencils and pens to the class. This material is for the Student.
  4. Carry and extra set of lessons to the class with you if the Teacher is using the OBS. There may be a friend who will want to sit in, or a husband or wife.
  5. Book markers should also be a part of your inventory.
  6. Some Students may want to highlight the verses you are sharing with them. Have a Highlighter available for the Student.
  7. After the class starts, pay specific attention to facial expressions. Facial expressions, such as the look of confusion or puzzlement may be an indication that the verses just covered are not clear.  The Silent Partner may even ask the question: Are you clear or do you understand what we just covered?  If not, the Teacher will make an attempt to clarify the verses.  It is important for you to be familiar with the lessons, because you may be able to provide some clarity.  The Teacher does not always notice expressions because of where their train of thought is.
  8. Pay special attention to the Student body language. Body language may give you the indication that the person is tired, not paying attention, disinterested, etc…..  Again, the Teacher may not notice and the Silent Partner may ask a question based upon what you see.
  9. If the Student ask questions during the class that are not covered. Be sure to write the questions down, unless the Teacher says, that question will be answered later in the study.  Write it down so that the subject may be discussed when you all meet for the next class.
  10. It would be a good idea for the Silent Partner to know the Teacher before the class starts.  The Teacher should provide the Silent Partner with what plan of action they will take.  The Teacher will generally have a train of thought of what they will try to accomplish.  This can change once the class starts, because of the Student’s concerns.
  11. If there are areas in the lesson where you need clarity, write your questions down so that you may ask the Teacher after the class.  Make sure this is not addressed in the presence of the Student.
  12. Sometimes the Teacher may ask the Silent Partner if there is something you would like to add.  Always be prepared.  Be sure to present facts and not opinions.  We should back-up our statements with Bible text.
  13. Please dress conservative. Image is a part of who we are and it will help in winning the battle against Satan.
  14. There may be times when the Silent Partner will have to entertain small children, so the Student will be able to concentrate on the study.
  15. Carry an extra Bible, if you have one. The Student may not have one.
  16. Please keep track of the time. The Teacher may not notice how much time is left, or if you all have gone over the allotted time.  Bring this to the Teacher’s attention.
